Basis Technology focuses on maintaining Autopsy on Windows since that is what most of the users use. We do our best to support Linux and macOS, but we need community help to ensure it works on all of the various platforms.
Hi,
I am running autopsy + sleuthkit on a debian type distribution linux (siduction) and use KDE as my desktop environment.
This is actually my second attempt to use this set of tools, my first attempt failed due to not working installation instructions and getting all sorts of errors during install.
This time autopsy starts up ok and I could read in an older 80GB hard disk drive for analysis, but I have issues and questions:
(1) Installation: why does autopsy request to use its own java kit, why cannot I simply use the java kit I already have installed on my computer?
(2) autopsy/sleuthkit java seems to be buggy in some ways. When I open “Images/Videos”, “Communications”, “Geolocation”, “Timeline” etc. windows they are displayed cut-off from their top, i.e. they have no window bars to drag them around, so it is not possible to view most of the windows’ content.
