I’m running Autopsy on a virtual machine in Virtualbox. Every time I run Ingest Modules, my computer is shutting down. I have already used Windows 7 professional and windows server 2012. With 3 processing cores and 4gb of RAM. can you help me?

It sounds like either your VM, or your base system that is running the VM, or both, are not powerful enough to actually run a stable VM. You can allocate resources from on to the other, or you can work on building a more stable virtual environment.
However, purely from a virtual machine perspective, three processors is an odd number, it is best to use an even number of processors (2,4,6,etc), especially in an open source tool like virtualbox, to try to limit the potential for allocation issues.
