At one point autopsy did run on this computer, I have not used it in a few months when i go to run it, only the little blank java window opens in the top left of the screen. I have done all the troubleshooting including; deleting user folder, updating java, uninstalling autopsy redownload and install again, reboot, change to compatibility mode (although there is no option for compatibility mode win 11), ran autopsy as admin, ran the troubleshooter within windows for this application and no results.
I am not willing to turn off windows defender to run autopsy, that is simply not an option
is there any other options?
What plugins are you using?

I have no plugins installed. I’m a student trying to use Autopsy for labs. I did go through the troubleshooting, I tried to run autopsy again and here is the most recent log entry. I do notice this exception java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Key contains code point U+0000

Did you do the step “Deleting the Autopsy User Folder”? As the log appears to have a problem with a settings/config file, according to google anyway!
Check all users on your pc, as there is more folders for default user etc…
Do this and remove the autopsy folder and try again?
Yes, it didn’t seem to do anything at all I can try again. It will run in windows sandbox, but we all know no data is persistent in the sandbox
there is no folder in appdata titled tncbeans as the directions say in the link provided. I am the only user on this computer no other users. I checked for user folder in autopsy no such thing. i uninstalled autopsy and re-installed also does not work.
Is there an autopsy folder instead of tncbeans in the user folders?
My next question is does anyone else taking your class encountered the same problem or have a solution?
