Until April 16, 2019 the “Oracle Java (JDK) 8 Installer PPA” repository, from Web8 Team, was my favorite way to install oracle java 8 on Ubuntu. Unfortunately, that repository was discontinued.
In search for a solution I looked at the Running_Linux_OSX.txt file that is bundled with the Autopsy zip file:
- Install Oracle Java and set JAVA_HOME.
– Linux: Use the instructions here: https://medium.com/coderscorner/installing-oracle-java-8-in-ubuntu-16-10-845507b13343
However, the link is dead:
410: The author deleted this Medium story
So, I’ve searched for several scripts to help me automate the install process of oracle java 8 on Ubuntu. I ended up creating a fork and adapted it to my needs. I think this script can be useful to someone else that loves to work on Linux as much as I do. That script is available on Github, please free try it and send me some feedback.
